MawMaw's Cabbage Rolls
Cabbage Leaves
Ground Beef
Seasoning to taste
Tomato Sauce
Sour Kraut or Rice
- Blanch leaves in simmering water to make them easy to work with.
- I mix ground beef with my favorite seasoning (Usually garlic, salt & pepper) in a bowl.
- I make a "meatball"shaped form with the meat mixture that will fit inside the cabbage leaf and wrap the cabbage around the ball of meat.
- You can use tooth picks to ensure leaves stay put however I usually don't do this because I find it hard to fish them out after cooking.
- Put in a good sized pot on the stove.
- When you have used all of your meat mixture, pour tomato sauce over cabbage rolls.
- Add a can of sour Kraut (Kraut gives it a tangy flavor that my family likes but you can user rice if you prefer).
- Cook on med heat (with the lid vented) until the meat mix is done stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Serve and Enjoy
Note: Some cabbage may separate from the "roll" but my family never seems to mind and eats them up!
